Privacy Policy

Plumbean is a baby tracker for parents and caregivers. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it lives, and the choices you have. The short version: your baby's information stays on your device, we run no servers and collect nothing, and if you choose to share a baby with a partner, that baby's information is stored in your iCloud account, which we cannot access.

In this policy, "we" means Thomas Perks, the developer of Plumbean. You can reach us at hello@blackpearapp.com.

The short version

  • We do not collect, receive, sell or share your personal information.
  • Plumbean has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party software that collects data.
  • Everything you enter is stored on your device. We have no servers.
  • If you share a baby with a partner, that baby's information is stored in iCloud (Apple), not with us.
  • Parent check-ins and reminders are never shared with anyone.

Information you enter

Plumbean stores what you choose to put in it, on your device:

  • Your baby's profile: name, date of birth, optional due date, the growth chart you chose (girl or boy), and an optional photo.
  • Logs: sleep, feeding (breast timers, bottle amounts, solids notes), diapers, pumping, with times and any notes you add.
  • Growth measurements: weight, length and head circumference, with dates and notes.
  • Week guides: which activities you have ticked off.
  • Parent check-ins: your answers, the words you pick to describe your day, and an optional private note. This is personal wellbeing information. It is stored only on your device, is never shared with a partner, and is not included when you export your data.
  • Settings: reminder times, units (metric or imperial) and which baby is shown.

Growth percentiles are worked out on your device using the World Health Organization Child Growth Standards, which are built into the app. Nothing about your baby is sent anywhere to do this.

Where your information is stored

Your information is stored in the app's private storage on your device. It is shared only with the parts of Plumbean that run on the same device, such as the Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen widgets, Live Activities, Siri and Shortcuts, so that they can show or update your data.

If you back up your device (to iCloud or to a computer), Apple may include Plumbean's data in that backup, according to your own settings. That backup is controlled by you and Apple, not by us.

Sharing a baby with a partner (iCloud)

You can choose to share one baby with a partner. Only then does information leave your device:

  • The shared baby's profile, logs, growth measurements and ticked activities are stored in your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. Your partner receives them through an invitation you send them.
  • Apple provides and secures this storage, including encryption in transit and at rest, under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. We cannot see, read or access this information.
  • You and your partner can both view and add to a shared baby's information.
  • Parent check-ins, reminders, units and other settings are never shared.
  • You can stop sharing at any time. This removes your partner's access and your baby's data from iCloud, and your partner's copy is removed from their device. You keep everything on your own device. A partner can also leave a shared baby, which removes only their own copy.
  • You will need to be signed in to iCloud to share. Plumbean does not use iCloud for anything until you share a baby.

Please share only with people you trust. Anyone you share a baby with can see everything shared for that baby and can keep their own notes, screenshots or exports.

Permissions

  • Notifications: used for the feed reminders you turn on. They are scheduled on your device. We do not send you notifications from a server.
  • Photos: when you add a photo of your baby, you pick one photo using Apple's photo picker. Plumbean does not get access to the rest of your photo library.
  • iCloud: used only if you share a baby, as described above.
  • Siri and Shortcuts: if you use Siri, Apple processes your voice request under Apple's privacy policy. Plumbean only receives the resulting action, such as "log a wet diaper".
  • Live Activities and widgets: these show your baby's information on your Lock Screen and Home Screen. Anyone who can see your screen may be able to see it, so check your widget and Lock Screen settings if that matters to you.

Plumbean does not ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or Health data.

Links to other services

Some links in the app, such as our community on Reddit, open in your browser or in another app. Those services have their own privacy policies, and we don't control what they collect. Plumbean does not send them any information about you or your baby when you tap a link. Anything you post in a public community is visible to others, so please don't share anything that identifies your baby or your family.

Purchases

Premium is an optional subscription bought through Apple. Apple handles your payment and gives the app a confirmation that you are subscribed. We never see your payment details, and we have no account for you. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.

Information we receive from Apple

We do not receive any personal information from the app. If you choose to share analytics or crash reports with app developers in your device's privacy settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated reports. These do not identify you or contain your baby's information.

Exporting and deleting your information

  • Export: in Me, choose Export data to create CSV files of your logs and growth measurements. Where you save or send those files is up to you.
  • Delete a baby: deleting a baby in the app removes their profile, logs, measurements and checklist from your device.
  • Delete check-ins: you can delete single check-ins or all of them from the check-in history.
  • Delete everything: deleting the app removes its data from your device. Because we hold no copy, we cannot restore it for you, so keep your own backup or export if you want to keep it.
  • Shared babies: stop sharing (or delete the baby as the owner) to remove the iCloud copy, as described above.

Children's privacy

Plumbean is for parents and caregivers, not for children. It stores information about a baby that a parent or caregiver chooses to enter. We do not collect that information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Your information is protected by the security of your device and, for shared babies, by Apple's iCloud security. We recommend keeping your device locked with a passcode or Face ID or Touch ID, and keeping iOS up to date. No method of storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Not medical advice

Plumbean is a record-keeping and information app. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Growth percentiles show how a measurement compares with a reference group and are not a diagnosis. If you are worried about your baby's health, please talk to your doctor, midwife or health visitor.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or California law), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to how it is used. Because we do not collect or hold your information, there is nothing for us to look up or delete. You can use the controls in the app described above, and you can contact us if you have any questions.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Plumbean handles information, we will update this policy and the effective date above, and we will tell you in the app before any change that affects your information takes effect.
